Speedy Rolls

The recipe below for Speedy Rolls is the perfect alternative to boring and bland store bought bread products. Perfect for hot dog buns, coffee cakes and dinner rolls, this recipe is too good to pass up.

Recipe: Speedy Rolls


  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cake compressed yeast
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1/3 cup melted shortening, cooled
  • 4 1/2 cups flour


  1. Dissolve sugar and yeast in lukewarm water
  2. Sift salt and 2 cups flour into first mixture
  3. Beat 2 minutes
  4. Add eggs and shortening
  5. Beat 1 minute
  6. Mix in 4 1/2 cups lour, stirring until dough is formed
  7. Allow to rest in bowl for 20 minutes, for ease in handling
  8. Turn out on lightly floured board and shape into desired rolls
  9. Place on ungreased baking sheet
  10. Bake at 375 degrees F until browned
  11. This dough may be made into anything from coffee cakes to hot dog or bratwurst buns
