Soft Oatmeal Cookies

oatmeal cookiesOatmeal Cookies are a midwest staple. Made with traditional rolled oats and a handful of additional ingredients housed in most every kitchen in the country, a wholesome treat can be made in virtually no time at all.

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

American, Dessert
  • 1 cup soft shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 tbsp raisin liquid
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup quick oats
  • Cook together 1 cup raisins and 1 cup water for about 3 minutes. Drain and save the liquid, cool slightly.
  • Mix above ingredients together.
  • Add cooked raisins.
  • Mix and let stand at least 2 hours. Drop and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
