Oatmeal Bread

Recipe: Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vegetable shortening
  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 5-6 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup warm water to soak yeast in

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over oatmeal and let stand to cool some
  2. Mix in rest of ingredients
  3. If you want, add 1/2 cup raising in with the oatmeal
  4. Let rise until it doubles, work down and let rise again
  5. Divide and place in loaf pans
  6. When it doubles again, bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes
  7. Makes 3 loaves
