Hydrox Dessert

Recipe: Hydrox Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 envelope Knox gelatin
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 envelopes Dream Whip
  • 1 pkg Hydrox (Oreo) cookies (approx. 1 lb.)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Soak 1 envelope gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water and let set
  2. Then mix in double boiler the 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, 3 egg yolks, 1/4 tsp salt and cook until it coats a spoon
  3. Then add gelatin and cool completely
  4. Add 2 envelopes Dream Whip, whipped stiff
  5. Fold in 3 egg whites, which were beaten stiff
  6. For crust, roll 1 package Hydrox cookies, mix 1/2 cup melted butter
  7. Put 2/3 of these crumbs in bottom of 9×13 inch pan
  8. Put custard mixture on this and add remaining crumbs on top
  9. Chill until set in refrigerator or put in freezer
  10. Will keep up to 3 months in freezer
