Homemade Jucy Lucy

The Jucy Lucy is a Minnesota staple and our homemade version of the recipe — packed with almost molten cheese — is a much needed change from the bland slabs of ground beef you’ve been throwing on the grill for years.

Homemade Jucy Lucy

  • 1 lb. Hamburger (80/20)
  • 3-5 slices Provolone cheese
  • Your favorite hamburger seasoning
  • Hamburger buns
  • Divide hamburger into six equal portions and hand patty into six thin patties. Break or tear slices of cheese into quarters or sixths and arrange pieces of cheese on top of three of the patties, careful to keep cheese from edge of patties.
  • Pair up hamburger patties and seal edges. Season with your favorite hamburger seasoning. Grill on each side over medium heat for 7 minutes. Watch closely for leaking cheese as this will cause flare-ups. Extinguish and flare-ups encountered with beer of your choice.
