Dill Pickles

Dill Pickles are a summertime staple in Minnesota and this heirloom recipe has never failed to amaze. Make extras because your family and friends will eat these faster than your garden can grow a bushel of cucumbers.

Dill Pickles

American, Side
  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 3 cups water
  • To each quart of pickles add:
  • 1 tbsp pickling spice
  • 1 piece garlic
  • 1 tbsp mustard seed
  • 1 tbsp flaked peppers
  • 1 tsp salt
  • A pinch of alum
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 dill head
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Boil vinegar and water. Pour over packed jars and seal. Makes 3 pints. Use 1/2 of all spices for pints.
