Date Nut Bread

Date Nut Bread is one of those recipes that gets overlooked. It seems that dates have fallen out of favor in our modern world but take a look in your local grocery store because this recipe deserves to be tried. It yields a sweet, soft bread that is perfect around the holidays but great any time of the year.

Recipe: Date Nut Bread


  • 1 cup dates, chopped fine
  • 1 tsp soda, dissolved in 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt


  1. Pour water over dates and let stand until cool
  2. Then add nuts
  3. Mix with sugar, egg, vanilla, butter, flour and salt
  4. Bake at 325 degrees F for 45 minutes
