Coffee Cake

Coffee Cake is best served with coffee but that doesn’t mean that you always have to have a pot of coffee brewing alongside your cake pan of coffee cake. This recipe is a classic — let’s make it your go-to coffee cake recipe!

Recipe: Coffee Cake


  • Batter:
  • 1/2 cup margarine or shortening
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Topping:
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp margarine
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • Nuts if desired


  1. Mix batter as for cake
  2. Put half of the batter in greased cake pan, 9×13 inches
  3. Put half of topping over batter, then put 1 can drained fruit (4 apples or 4 cups) on top
  4. Then pour remaining batter on fruit and top with remaining topping
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 60 minutes
  6. Can use dates, raisins or any fruit instead of drained fruit as suggested above
