Chocolate Cake

Recipe: Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 squares chocolate or 6 tbsp cocoa
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Place shortening in mixing bowl
  2. Sift flour, sugar, salt and baking soda
  3. Add to shortening
  4. Add vanilla and 1 cup buttermilk
  5. Beat 2 minutes
  6. Add cocoa, eggs and 1/2 cup buttermilk
  7. Beat 2 minutes
  8. Use 9×13 inch greased and floured cake pan
  9. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes
