Recipe: Carole’s Chinese Dish

Carole’s Chinese Dish is a quick and easy Americanized twist on a Chinese favorite. Using simple, everyday ingredients this could become a fast weeknight meal to add to your rotation.


  • 1 1/2 lb. Sirloin Steak
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 large tomatoes, peeled
  • 2 green peppers
  • 1/4 cup salad oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 3/4 tsp ginger
  • 2 tsp corn starch
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • Cooked rice


  1. Cut meat across grain into thin slices.
  2. Marinate in mixture of soy sauce and sugar.
  3. Cut tomatoes into eighths and green peppers into strips.
  4. Heat salad oil, add garlic and ginger, cook for a few minutes.
  5. Remove garlic and green peppers and saute 3 minutes.
  6. Add beef and cook 3 more minutes.
  7. Add tomatoes, cover and cook 3 more minutes. Blend corn starch with 2 tablespoons soy sauce and stir into mixture. Do not overcook.
  8. Serve with rice.
