Basic Cream Pie

A simple to make basic cream pie recipe with enough variations for a different flavor of cream pie for the rest of the week. Whether you like chocolate or lemon, this recipe has all of the bases covered.

Recipe: Basic Cream Pie


  • 1 baked pie shell
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • Scant cup sugar
  • 4 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Meringue:
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp corn starch
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp sugar


  1. In a blender, combine the milk, sugar corn starch, salt, egg yolks and vanilla
  2. Blend together
  3. Then cook until thick
  4. Pour into baked pie crust
  5. Cover with meringue
  6. Bake in 350 degree F oven for 15-20 minutes

Coconut Pie: Add 1/2 cup coconut

Banana Pie: Add 1 or 2 sliced bananas

Chocolate Pie: Add 2 tablespoons cocoa

Chocolate Revel: Scrape sweet chocolate as desired

Butterscotch: Brown 2 tablespoons white sugar and 2 tablespoons margarine until quite brown, then add milk to the mixture, makes alot of noise but keep stirring

Lemon: Use 2 cups water and 1/2 cup lemon juice instead of milk
