Barbecued Pot Roast

barbecued pot roastRather than a typical pot roast cooked in water in a crock pot, this recipe for barbecued pot roast is a tangy and flavorful alternative. Sweet and saucy, this barbecued pot roast will melt in your mouth.

Recipe: Barbecued Pot Roast


  • 4 lb pot roast
  • Salt and pepper
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • Dash of pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1-1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 or 2 ribs of celery, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced


  1. Brown roast slowly in heavy pan on top of stove for 20-30 minutes
  2. Combine flour, brown sugar, vinegar, salt, pepper, mustard, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce
  3. Place roast on top of heavy foil
  4. Cover with sauce, add vegetables
  5. Seal foil, using drug store wrap
  6. Bake in slow oven at 300-350 degrees F on a rack to prevent scorching, for about 2 hours
