Apple or Cherry Coffee Cake

Any flavor of coffee cake, apple or cherry in this case, is always a hit! The crunch texture of the sweet topping coupled with the fruity filling makes for a well-rounded dessert that will make you want to always have a pan of this dessert ready for any occasion.

Recipe: Apple or Cherry Coffee Cake

Ingredients

  • 1-1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1-1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 can cherry or apple pie filling
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup flour

Instructions

  1. Sift 1-1/4 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1-1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/4 tsp salt together
  2. Set aside
  3. Cut in 4 tbsp butter until mixture forms coarse crumbs
  4. Combine 1 slightly beaten egg, 3 tbsp milk and 1 tsp vanilla
  5. Add to dry ingredients and mix well
  6. Spread in greased 11×17 inch pan
  7. Spoon 1 can pie filling over top
  8. Combine 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon; cut in 4 tbsp butter
  9. Sprinkle over filling and bake for 45-50 minutes in 350 degree F oven
  10. This is also called New Bride’s Coffee Cake. Simple to make and delicious.
