Apple Doughnuts

Anything tastes better made in your own kitchen than bought in a store and these Apple Doughnuts are a testament to that rule. Hot, sweet donuts brimming with the sweetness of apples make me want to make a batch of these delectable treats right now!

Recipe: Apple Doughnuts


  • 4 tbsp shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup well drained canned apples
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 5 cups sifted flour
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Powdered sugar


  1. Cream sugar and shortening
  2. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each one
  3. Sift together dry ingredients
  4. Add alternately with milk to creamed mixture
  5. Cut apples into small pieces and add
  6. Mix well
  7. Drop by teaspoonful into deep fat heated to 375 degrees F
  8. Fry 3 minutes and turn once ot brown all sides
  9. Drain on absorbent paper
  10. Roll in powdered sugar
  11. Makes 6 dozen
